A number of local residents have been in touch with me, concerned about an increase in incidents taking place on weekend evenings outside licensed venues in the town. I know that one venue in particular is causing concern.
By way of a very quick update, a number of Councillors in Coleshill have been approached with the same issue and we’ve had conversations with the licensing department at the Borough Council about the concerns. I know that visits have been planned to the venue in question by the Police and licensing team and a very strong message has been relayed that this sort of trouble needs to be stopped.
That doesn’t seemed to have worked so I have made further enquiries over the weekend with the licensing team and have asked them to come back to me with further plans to tackle what seems to be an increase in violent incidents.
No one wants to stop people having a drink. This is about making sure that licensed venues are held accountable for the impact the venue has on the town. The law is clear on this and whilst incidents remain small in number, their impact on the wider town is growing and we must ensure the town remains a safe, calm and just down right decent place to have a good night out.
When I get further updates, I will let local residents know.
