A grant of £5000 has helped protect the North Warwickshire Recreational Centre for future generations. Like many sports clubs, the NWRC was struggling with their income switched off while still needing to spend money on the centre and ground to keep it in top condition for the future. Money set aside for roof repairs was now required to keep the club afloat, so an online fundraising effort was started to raise £7500 to repair the roof.

Polesworth Borough Councillors Simon Rose, Mike Osborne, Adam Farrell and Dave Parsons saw the online appeal and have now made a grant award of £5000 from their Councillor Community Fund. The Councillors said;

“During these unprecedented times, we want to help as many local people as possible. In the past two months, we’ve provided thousands of pounds in grants for the Polesworth Food Hub as well as supporting events like the pensioner’s dinner at the Memorial Hall this Christmas. When we saw the NWRC was struggling, we offered to help because we know how vital facilities like this are for the future generations of Polesworth.

“We’re delighted to have been able to make this grant, and we look forward to seeing NWRC going from strength to strength in the future.”

North Warwickshire Recreational Centre Manager Mark Hopkins said “I would like to go on the record and personally thank every Polesworth Borough Councillor for their help and support on awarding us this grant and in doing so safeguarding the centre and the clubhouse, it is safe to say without their support the clubhouse and probably the centre would have had to close, that would have deprived the local community of a multi-purpose building, I can not thank our Polesworth Borough Councillors enough.

North Warwickshire Recreational Ground Trustee Paul Barton added: “As our centre is used by Warwickshire and Staffordshire based teams but when the chips were down, and it looked like we may have to close the clubhouse due to safeguarding issues, Only Polesworth Borough Councillors stepped forward to help us in our hour of need, we as a local charity are so grateful for their support, with the grant, we are now to start work on our brand new clubhouse roof, which will have a 20-year guarantee to boot, Thank you again to our Polesworth Borough Councillors from all at North Warwickshire Recreational Centre “.

Polesworth Parish Council awarded a further £1500 grant at their virtual meeting on Wednesday 3rd June 2020.
