Yesterday I came across a press release from our Conservative Member of Parliament, Craig Tracey. He claimed to have secured an additional £7million in funding for Warwickshire Police.
This of course goes nowhere near replacing the funding that our Police have had cut from their budget since 2010, by Mr Tracey and his Government.
The most striking part of Mr Tracey’s press release is that the £7million being promised actually included £5million that would only be secured by whacking up council tax – so it isn’t funding Mr Tracey secured from Government. This new funding will only come from us hardworking taxpayers stumping up yet more money to try and hold together a Police force hanging on by the scruff of its neck.
The other £2million mentioned by Mr Tracey is also not additional money for our Police because half of it is to cover £1million of additional pension costs the Government pushed off its books and onto the books of local Police forces across the country.
So Mr Tracey, in 9 years of a Conservative Government has given us £1million of additional money minus the millions taken from Warwickshire Police so I make that a pretty bad deal for us here in North Warwickshire where we now have just 6 Police Officers working in our neighbourhood teams.
The only way to get a properly funded Police force is a Labour Government.
